Jacks Effort Ends Drought

The Jacks were looking to slay a monster that was growing game after game as this young squad searched for a win. With some good efforts recently against the top teams, the Jacks took on Miramichi in a Thursday night clash. Miramichi was looking to improve upon their playoff chances hoping to take an important 2 points on the road at the sawmill.

A solid start by the Jacks was interrupted by an early penalty. Miramichi would execute a nice, two on two, which caught the Jacks off guard and the Timberwolves would open the scoring with a power play goal. A steady effort for the remainder of the first sent the boys to the room down one.

The second would be much more to the Jacks liking as they exploded for the next three goals; Bullen just a minute in, Crawley on the power play and Nick Smith to open up a 3-1 margin. Miramichi would respond on the power play, once again, and add another with about four minutes to go to tie it up. Fortunately, the Jacks would answer again, as Crawley would put the Jacks back up one heading into the third.

In the third, the Jacks created some breathing room as Crawley (hat trick), fired a blast from the top of the circle, short side, on a sniper of a goal. The Timberwolves were determined to make a game of it as they found the back of the net with just under eight to go. With a one goal lead, the Jacks were focused on getting pucks deep and making the Timberwolves work the entire length of the rink to create a scoring chance. Then, the Jacks found themselves in some trouble, as they were dealt a four minute minor with about the same amount of time on the clock. Two powerplay goals to this point meant the Jacks would need to dial up the successful penalty killing they had enjoyed throughout most of the season, but was missing as of late. Not only did the penalty killing squad deny, but they watched the clock tick down to a point where the Timberwolves were forced to pull their goalie. Cody Coffin working effectively on the penalty kill sealed the Jacks victory as he found the empty net much to the delight of Lumberjacks fans.

Make the final Jacks 6 - Timberwolves 4 live from the Sawmill in Bridgewater.
